Redevelopment of the Sunshine Law Courts undertaken in five stages requiring construction zones to be progressively relocated enabling the courts to remain operational throughout construction.
The scope for each the stages comprise:
Stage 2 –Lower ground fitout of offices and public amenities.
Stage 3 –Ground level fitout of staff administration and public areas, and fitout of two magistrate courtrooms.
Stages 4 – Fitout of two custodial court rooms, magistrates chambers,
judicial private access courtyard and finishes to the public entry foyer. Works include fitout of the specialist custody lift security cage and reconfiguration of the custodial tunnel connecting the court to the police station holding cells.
Stage 5a –Public circulation area & lower ground landscape works
and new public lift installation
Stage 5b – Public entry addition including façade works, new entry
canopy structure, fabric and services.

Challenges
Significant client initiated design changes to court room layouts, audio visual equipment resulting in increased scope and program. The Devco team facilitated design workshop to enable the Client and stakeholders to resolve design issues.
Noisy and disruptive works were undertaken outside of court operating hours. Particular care taken to minimise dust and noise to occupied areas.
Construction is undertaken whilst courts remained operational requiring high levels of site management ensuring site safety during construction.
