Construction of the new Waste Transfer Station included the State Emergency Services Call Centre with vehicle bay/despatch, waste transfer station with waste separation/compaction facility, offices, staff amenities, car parking for 60 council trucks and a weigh bridge.
The project was undertaken in two stages as separable portions: Stage 1 Waste transfer station with truck parking Stage 2 Administrative offices and passenger vehicle parking.
The development features a state of the art waste transfer facility for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and a drop-off area for domestic selfhaul waste (with inbuilt resource recovery options).
The rainwater harvesting system collects water from roofs, which is used at the Depot offices, truck wash and dog pound. Runoff from paved areas is treated through a system of swales, rain gardens and gross pollutant traps.
The project includes three underground water tanks with 185,000 litre capacity and a truck water recycling unit enabling an 85% reduction in water usage with saving over 950,000 litres annually.
