NMIT STUDENT CENTRE: LIBRARY & GYMNASIUM
Construction of a new two storey 2,200m2 Student Centre including library and fitness centre at the Epping campus of the Northern Metropolitan Institute of TAFE. The east and west facades, consist of a series of seven to ten metre high concave precast concrete panels with concealed fixings. The angular, sloping windows to the south required a complex steel structure to accommodate the building form.
Inside, the dramatic full-height glass provides natural light into the entry foyer that has extensive use of plywood paneling to walls and ceilings. Teaching spaces are located on the first floor incorporating a twenty-four-hour technology laboratory for up to thirty-six students. The gymnasium is located on the ground floor with change rooms and associated amenities.
The external works included exposed aggregate paving, street furniture, installation an irrigation system and planting of semi-mature trees.
