The Leopold Community Hub is a benchmark community facility, with a 5 Green Star design. The facility comprises childcare, early learning centre, library, community areas, maternal and child health services.
The building is an example of sustainable 5 Star design within the public sector. The innovative heating/cooling system is a combination of underfloor heating, indirect evaporative cooling, with maximised natural ventilation resulting in significantly reduced operating costs.
There are five separate structures located along a sloping site which required stepped excavation and benching to four levels. There were one hundred and fifty 450mm diameter bored piers, ranging in depth from 6.0 to 9.0 metres.
The Leopold Community Hub includes the following facilities:
- Maternal and Child Health centre.
- Kindergarten.
- Childcare facilities.
- Outdoor play areas.
- Multi-purpose room.
- Toy library.
