BAYSIDE COLLEGE – ADMINISTRATION & CLASS ROOMS P-9

Altona North

The new Bayside Secondary College is a result of the merger of the Altona Gate Primary School and the Altona North campus of the Bayside Secondary College.

The project required staged construction comprising:

  • Demolition of existing buildings and structures in two phases to maintain classroom accommodation.
  • Construction of a new administration, library and classroom buildings for years 5-9.
  • Construction of specialist teaching facilities (hive building ) including Science Laboratories, Art/Graphics Studios Metal and Timber Technology Workshops and Food Technology.

The hive building comprised flexible groupings of learning areas with a variety of operable walls grouped around a resource centre and shared facilities.

The buildings reflect an environmentally sensitive design maximising solar control through orientation and site layout. Other sustainability features include intelligent automated thermal chimneys connected to a mechanised window system, rainwater harvesting for irrigation, drought tolerant garden landscaping and creative urban sensitive stormwater solutions.
