The two storey library, with its iconic design and unique structure, has a 2000m2 open floor plan and was the first library in Victoria designed as a hybrid digital/print library. The building has complex geometric forms that required innovative construction solutions to achieve the design vision.
The tapered elliptical columns were fabricated off-site using steel encased in glass fibre reinforced cement that were installed, in two halves with lighting and air distributed through the columns.
The facade included steel framed windows that were segmented and raked requiring slim tolerances at the interface with the roof soffit and lower pre-cast panels.
