The project comprised two separable portions. Separable portion A comprised the demolition of an existing gymnasium/sports hall to enable the construction of a new Design Centre.
Separable portion B comprised the refurbishment of the ground level of the Science Building into the student cafeteria and food technology teaching facility.
The new Design Centre comprises a large exhibition/presentation space, an outdoor undercover outdoor learning space, resource areas and five laboratories all on the ground level. The upper level has two large design studios, strategy laboratory, virtual reality room, robotics laboratory and several informal workspaces.
The building has exposed internal services, new galvanised steel framing, post-tensioned upper floor slab, precast concrete panels, acoustic metal ceilings and perforated aluminium external wall cladding.
The Science Building refurbishment required internal demolition, installation of extensive services for food technology teaching spaces and the new student cafeteria together with new ceilings, walls and flooring. The fit-out for food technology and cafeteria areas required the reticulation of new services for the teaching kitchen , refrigerated food storage, laundry and support facilities.
